Author: Lydbrook Historical Society

The village of Lydbrook occupies a two-mile long valley on the north eastern edge of the Forest of Dean. Whilst the main part of the village borders the road running down the centre of the valley, over time Lydbrook has also climbed the surrounding hillsides. The valley has also been home to many industries – coal mining, tinplate making and milling – but they have now all gone. Yet the village lives on, a vibrant community in a picturesque setting, typically Forest yet with a character all its own, as this brief history will show.
