Gas Industry Titles
We have available the remainder of
three books on the Gas Industry, which have not been widely marketed but which
contain much of interest to industrial historians.
One of the books, The History of the Gas Light & Coke Company 1812-1949 is a
1992 reprint of the history of the company first published in 1949 and was done
on behalf of the London Gas Museum. As far as we are aware, it was only ever
sold through the museum.
Always Under Pressure (sub-titled A History of North Thames Gas Since 1949) also
seems not to have been marketed to a wider audience, whilst the third title, The
Magic of Hot Water, was published in 2001 to mark the 25th Anniversary of the
founding of Andrews Water Heaters and has never been made available for sale,
being given away by the company to trade customers.
It presents a fascinating pictorial history of domestic water heating, mainly
through pictures, mostly in the form of old advertising posters and magazine
adverts, and illustrations from trade manuals and catalogues.
All three publications are offered prices at about half the cost of what they
would be if published today. The two company histories in
particular are available in low quantities. Given the positive
dearth of published information available on the Gas Industry generally, we are
sure that the chance to add any or all of these titles to the industrial history
book shelf will be welcomed by many of our regular customers.
