Canal & Maritime Publications

With the publication of Volume 2 of The Glamorganshire & Aberdare Canals in late 2004, a new benchmark has been set in the field of British waterways history. Our range of Canal titles also includes our two publications on the Anderton Boat Lift, both of which continue to be market leaders. Indeed, the Guide to the Anderton Boat Lift has been reprinted for the second time in 2005, and continues to be the best selling publication at the Boat Lift Visitor Centre.

Our Maritime section grew quickly in 2005 with the publication of two new books. The Portishead Coal Boats was published in early July, telling the story of the Osborn & Wallis ships which delivered coal from South Wales ports to the power stations at Portishead and including a 16 page colour section. Author Richard Clammer has produced his second volume on Cosens of Weymouth covering the earlier period in the company's history, 1848-1918. Cosens were one of the foremost paddle steamer operators on the south coast of England, running regular services as well as numerous pleasure trips and the book will be illustrated with a superb range of photographs, paintings, maps, ships plans and ephemera, going right back to the earliest days of the company.
